When I saw that English actress Jodie Comer was playing the lead in recently released, 1960s-set The Bikeriders (2023), I thought “Oh god she’s in everything! I guess I should do a WCW post about her!” Color me shocked to find that Comer has only done FIVE frock flicks! Nonetheless, she’s clearly become one of The Period Film Ingenues, so I thought it was worth taking a look at her resume so far.
Ivy Bolton in Lady Chatterley’s Lover (2015)
I have no memory of it, but apparently she plays the nurse to Sir Clifford Chatterley while his wife is out getting to know the gamekeeper in this late 1910s-set adaptation of the D.H. Lawrence novel.
Beryl Evans in Rillington Place (2016)
She played the victim of a real-life 1940s-50s serial killer.
Elizabeth of York in The White Princess (2017)
The one I know her from — as the late 15th-century queen of England in the Philippa Fucking Gregory novel adaptation.
Marguerite de Carrouges in The Last Duel (2021)
Based on a true story, a medieval Frenchwoman accuses a nobleman of rape; her husband challenges the man to a duel.
Kathy in The Bikeriders (2023)
A crime drama set in 1965, about a motorcycle gang.
What’s your favorite of Jodie Comer’s historical roles?
Not onl
Not only does Beryl Evans have nice knitwear, but a classic Liberty Lawn dress.
Not the eczema skirt! NOOOO, MAKE IT STOP! :)
Insert joke about Lady Chatterly getting ‘Downright Well-Acquainted’ HERE –
Shame? What is shame next to an excuse to make bad jokes about literature so classic it’s practically cliche?
On a more serious note, I absolutely love a beautiful lady in knitwear: the only thing better would be a lovely lady in SPANGLES (Whether costume jewellery or the genuinely-precious sort).
It’s not a movie or TV show, but she’s also in the video game “Alone in the Dark” which is set in the 1930s. I’m not sure if the clothes are accurate though.
