Do we NEED another take on A Christmas Carol? Probably not. But we got one coming up at the end of this year, directed by Ti West, and starring Johnny Depp, and I hate to say it … it looks really good.
Given that this just had its San Diego Comic Con premier (with Depp appearing in character as the titular character, naturally) less than 72 hours ago, there are not a whole lot of images of the production itself aside from the trailer and some behind the scenes shots.
What we do know so far is that Depp plays Ebenezer Scrooge (obvs), Rupert Grint is Bob Cratchet, and Ian McKellen plays the Ghost of Jacob Marley. Daisy Ridley is as yet unnamed on IMDB, but she appears in the trailer in a family dinner scene, so I’m assuming she’s Scrooge’s nephew’s wife — though the Wikipedia article says she’s playing the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, so either she’s in dual roles (not an unusual way to cast these things), or someone has their wires crossed. Andrea Riseborough plays the Ghost of Christmas Past, and Tramell Tillman plays the Ghost of Christmas Present.
The costumes were designed by Catherine George, and from what little I can see in the trailer and the promo photos floating around online, they look VERY good. Very solid 1840s from the look of it, which aligns with when the novel was published in 1843. I just wish there were more photos to really get the details!
Overall, I’m excited enough about the costumes from this trailer alone that I’ve bothered to interrupt our regularly scheduled Man Candy Monday to ramble on them. I’ll be keeping an eye out for more images from the film as we get closer to the release date of November 13, 2026!

Looks more like Rose Williams (Sanditon, Mrs Harris Goes to Paris) but Ebenezer doesn’t appear on her IMDB page. Though I’d say the same about the man on the left – looks nothing like Sam Claflin unless he’s been buried under a metric ton of prosthetics.
It is Rose Williams, she reposted the scene from the trailer on her IG story a few days ago.
Can’t bring myself to support anything Depp is in, so I’ll be missing out.
I liked when he got sucked into the mattress; I’m assuming that’s a reference to A Nightmare On Elm Street. :)

While Ms Ridley does not seem to be in any of the screenshots in this article, that IS she herself in the trailer.
Honestly, I might even watch this one (Of only for the rate delight of Ms Riseborough getting to scare the Devil out of Ebeneezer Scrooge).
This looks less like A Christmas Carol variation and more a paper thin excuse for Depp to flaunt his film persona. Between that and Depp’s less than great behavior over the years, I’ll sit this one out.
If it was anybody else, I’d watch it gladly, but I’m not going to give a single cent toward Depp’s “comeback.” Maybe if it comes to Tubi eventually, but I don’t know if I can look at him that long. I think it bothers me even more that he is purposely starring in a movie about redemption, like he thinks he’s being clever or subtle.

I’m kind of over Johnny Depp’s shenanigans onscreen, specifically his eccentric takes on characters. He’s not exactly method, but – whatevs. After seeing The Count of Monte Cristo, I’m liking Sam Clafin, so maybe I’ll watch once it reaches streaming, but I really haven’t enjoyed any of Johnny’s films since Curse of the Black Pearl, and that was only because I worked Pirates and loved seeing the references to what was in the OG attraction.
Costumes look great. Could be a fun rompy version. I’ll watch it.
