Perry Mason (2020-23) Chapter Sixteen – Frock Flicks

Welp folks, we made it to the final episode of Perry Mason (2020-23), and I have a lot of feelings about the fact that we won’t get any more of this show going forward. However, I am going to finish off this post, and then I have a special post planned in the coming weeks where we will take a look back at the amazing costumes in this season, so stay tuned.

Della’s dress makes me think I may have been wrong in my last post, and this is what she was wearing under her coat when she went to meet with the FBI in the previous episode. Also, that is literally my favorite color of blue.

Not a costume, but I just wanted to point out that this is my favorite building in Los Angeles.

You do not want these three to show up unannounced in your house.

This close up of Della’s suit shows that it’s a gorgeous shadow plaid. The stronger she gets in her law powers, the more she shows her prowess in her dress.

You also do not want these guys to show up unannounced on your front step.

Poor Ham. There’s a lot going on in his life. But I wanted to point out how impeccably perfect he is dressed.

Marion! She gets one single scene in this episode, but she’s wearing an absolutely perfect blouse and plaid skirt with some really fantastic details.

You may be excused if you don’t remember who the lady on the left is … She’s the widow of the murdered man at the center of this season. I just wanted to point out how fantastic her and her mother’s outfits are.

The two accused and their defense stand before the court for the verdict. One of the best climaxes to any court procedural I’ve seen in recent memory.

Here’s Della in another overtly lawerly suit, complete with a tie tack. I love this outfit so much.

Anita shows up at the press conference wearing Della’s signature color of teal blue! In every other scene she’s been in, she’s always been in shades of red, but here she’s showing her solidarity with Della.

I love the details of Della’s blouse here.

School teacher is back! I love her outfit here, particularly the jeans. Jeans were still a relatively rare garment for women to wear in the 1930s but for horseback riding, they were perfectly acceptable.

Finally, we have Perry in his signature leather jacket and Pete in his plaid jacket, paired with a camel-colored vest and gray pinstripe trousers. I love the subtle details and textures that the costume designer, Catherine Adair, played with for all of the male characters.

And at last, the three queer characters have a moment of peace together. Ham and Della are in the news as a possible item, which provides cover for everyone. Also, check out that dress on the extra to the left … That’s an assuit dress, more than likely an original because they’re so rare to come by. This show has always pulled out all the stops when it comes to creating a believable period atmosphere, and I am going to miss it so much.

I was disappointed in the series bc it didn’t align with the books. I gave up after season 1.
