French actor Romain Duris is playing the lead in many historical movies these days. I find him hot when he has a beard and not so hot when he doesn’t (yes, my attraction is arbitrary). Let’s run down his resume!
Queen’s Guard in Tom Thumb (2001)
A French fantasy film based on the Perrault fairy tale.
D’Erfeuil in Adolphe (2002)
An adaptation of a French novel published in 1816; an alienated young man falls in love with an older woman (Sophie Marceau).
Arsène Lupin in Arsène Lupin (2004)
An adaptation of the early-20th-century crime novels about a thief/adventurer, who is VERY well dressed in this particular version.
Jean-Baptiste Poquelin in Molière (2007)
He plays the famous 17th-century French playwright in this comedy about the writing of The Bourgeois Gentleman.
Louis Écharde in Populaire (2012)
In 1958, a terrible secretary’s boss decides to turn her into the world’s fastest typist.
Georges Laffont in Ceasefire (2016)
After World War I, a veteran goes to Africa, then returns and tries to reintegrate into French life.
Léon Morin in The Confession (2016)
Per IMDB, “In a village in France during the German occupation of World War II, a friendship develops between the new priest and an atheist.”
Lester in The Great Darkened Days (2018)
During World War I (I think), a Quebecois draft-dodger travels through the American West doing Charlie Chaplin impersonations.
Gustave Eiffel in Eiffel (2021)
Eiffel designs his famous tower for the 1889 World’s Fair, but also falls in love with a mysterious woman.
Aramis in The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan/Milady (2023)
Will someone please release one of these two filmed-back-to-back Three Musketeers adaptation in the US, please? Duris plays musketeer Aramis.
What’s your favorite Romain Duris frock flick? Is he hot without the beard? Discuss.
It’s Isabelle Adjani in this pictures of Adolphe
I also wish to see the Three Musketeers movie. It looks so amazing.
This man reminds me far too much of Mr Andrew Scott for me to be predisposed to like any character he plays – I don’t hate Mr Scott the actor (I know that because my reaction to his appearances lacks the inexplicable loathing with which I regard Mr Jack Whitehall) but he tends to play characters for whom I entertain a vast contempt.
ESPECIALLY his Moriarty.
Just an idea for a future MCM…Nicholas Rowe has been in a tremendous number of FF’s, now that I look at his bio. I am currently watching A Spy in the Family, in which he has a supporting role. He is so good in everything.
I’d love to see him get a chance to play grown-up Sherlock Holmes as more than a cameo: one can only wonder who his Watson ought to be!
Oui! Oui! OUI!!! J’adore Romain Duris!! I fell in love with him way back when in the non Frock Flick L’Auberge Espagnole (where I also first encountered recent WCW Kelly Rielly). I think he’s hot in all iterations and also a damn good actor. Like many, I’m chomping at the bit to see the newest adaptation of The Three Musketeers! This post reminded me that I’ve wanted to watch Lupin forever. It just got a nudge on my To Watch list. Tres excellent MCM choice!!!!
(Also, I will drool over Louis Garrel anytime, anywhere.)
Haven’t seen him in any of the featured Frock Flick films. But Romain Duris looked somehow familiar to me. Turns out I saw him in Ridley Scott’s (2017) “All the Money in the World”…about the Paul Getty kidnapping back in 1973 (but that’s beyond F.F. cutoff date✌🏻).
