Under the Greenwood Tree (2005) short review

2005 Under the Greenwood Tree

Keeley Hawes stars in this adaptation of a (happy!) Hardy novel that attempts to be another Wives and Daughters, but falls quite short. It just feels relatively flat, although it’s hard to put my finger on why. Eh. Her love interest is quite fetching, but I have to admit I agreed with her father that he wasn’t the right choice. The costumes were quite pretty –very simple country 1840s styles, with a range from the poorer sorts with a few glimpses of upper classes.
