Which of these historical movies and TV shows are you most excited about?
I so appreciate your list!
We are going to see Young Woman and the Sea tonight (5/31) at the Grand Lake in Oakland, California. Nothing like seeing films on the big screen when you can.
Oh & that’s such a great theater too!
Definitely looking forward to the new version of The Count of Monte Cristo (have read and re-read the novel). One Hundred Years of Solitude looks intriguing, and all I can think is WTF to RenFaire. With all the ick in the world right now, escapism is more my vibe.
A comedy about Lady Jane Grey?
It’s based on a YA historical fantasy novel called My Lady Jane that starts with the premise, what if Edward didn’t die young and therefore Jane was able to avoid the axe, but also adds in animal shapeshifting to replace the conflict between Protestant and Catholics. Early reports suggest the show may have left out the fantasy shapeshifting elements but is still following the book’s description of Tudor history by way of Monty Python and The Princess Brie.
Firebrand is obviously pure fantasy. Henry wasn’t like that, Katherine wasn’t like that and not even Anne Askew was like that.
Wow! ALL of these projects look well done. And pretty much all of them intrigue me! I’m so excited. Thanks for this update!
Lee looks good.
I’m really pleased that the film-makers are spreading out a bit. Some potentially really interesting things there. And a few groaners, but they’ll always be around. The Lady Jane thing looks atrocious.
I totally agree. Awful.
Oooh, more “anachronism is comedy!” series. We haven’t had enough of those…
I would love to ask Tom Hardy what accent he thinks he is doing in “The Bike Riders” (I’m still 100% going to see it)
‘Tom Hardy does VOICES’ is a key part of the reason anyone goes to see any Tom Hardy movie! (One would like to think being not only permitted but positively encouraged to trot out some new Voices – in varying degrees of plausibility – is what keeps the job fun for young Tom too!).
