  1. I don’t know if we NEED another Pride and Prejudice when there are already so many adaptations, but I love Olivia Colman, so I will definitely be giving it a chance!

  2. I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve never seen any of those films but the Lily James one. Seeing the photos, though, I have thoughts. Agree that these look like real clothes – sort of like Jenny Bevan’s philosophy. They’ve got to look like someone lives their life in them and wears things on repeat, which you don’t necessarily see so much in American projects. The photos from “Turn of the Screw” made me think this was a secret film – “Lady Mary, The Lost Years.” Right time period, and Michelle Dockery makes that face…™️ I’ve had both “Belfast” and “Blythe Spirit” on my watch list, so now I’ll get those bumped up sooner. There’s just something so cozy and familiar about every selection, and the stills from “Misbehavior” – those are looks I was wearing in middle school and early high school years with the lightweight print dresses imported from India, the skinny tshirt-knit tops that had blousy woven sleeves, the patterned sweater vests and “ethnic” sweaters. All that’s missing are some Kork-Ease platform sandals or desert boots. I could have done without the hideous colors back in the day (ochre, rust, brown – bleh!), but that patchwork ensemble on Kira Knightly – totally on point! My guess is that it’s from a vintage shop. This is reminding me why I used to sew my own clothes back then, because I hated the warm colors in the shops. Pastels until I fell into my glam rock era, then black and silver. I think Charlotte Walter has nailed every era. I don’t think we need another P&P, but maybe all these remakes are the 21st century version of repertory theatre. I’ll wait until it’s streaming. I still don’t think the version with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle can be topped.

  3. NO, we do absolutely not need another Pride and Prejudice, at least not for a long time yet. The 1995 adaptation can never be surpassed in terms of blending the source material with more modern sensibilities, it’s so hilarious, and romantic in such subtle ways, and the casting is purrrrfect!

Charlotte Walter’s designs are sooo cool, I love when costumes look like clothing, that’s been worn, I want all the outfits from Misbehaviour, Capture the Castle, and Blithe Spirit!

  4. Every 15 years, we need a new Pride & Prejudice. Of course, we don’t know whether Netflix’s one will really be good and worthy of the name. And a correction, Birdsong is about WWI; it was released for the centenary of the conflict.
