I can’t believe we don’t already have a Woman Crush Wednesday for Tara Fitzgerald! She’s such a classic British costume drama actress, having done steady work throughout the ’90s and early ’00s in many of our favourite frock flicks. And she’s still going (with a short detour into Game of Thrones). Let’s take a look at where she’s been.
Victoria Mordaunt in The Black Candle (1991)
Polly in The Camomile Lawn (1992)
Young Dollie Stokesay in Anglo Saxon Attitudes (1992)
Estella in Sirens (1994)
Catherine Pradier in Fall From Grace (1994)
Elizabeth aka Betty from Cardiff in The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain (1995)
Helen Graham in The Tenant of Wildfell Hall (1996)
Marian Fairlie in The Woman in White (1997)
Lady Dona St. Columb in Frenchman’s Creek (1998)
Topaz Mortmain in I Capture the Castle (2003)
Kat Ashley in The Virgin Queen (2006)
Mrs. Reed in Jane Eyre (2006)
Marie de Medici in The Musketeers (2014)
Diana Churchill in Churchill’s Secret (2016)
What’s your favorite historical costume movie or TV role with Tara Fitzgerald?
I endorse all of these except the Frenchman creek lacing because nipple and the Marie de Medici costume type thing… And hair… And the fact that she doesn’t look at all like Marie (cf Rubens. And yes, according to period documents, Marie left plump far behind early)
it’s a classic case of ‘Hollywood ugly’ that she was cast as the supposedly ugly Selyse in Game of Thrones. Fantastic lady.
You missed “Secret Passage” from 2004. Many interesting costumes, although absolutely wrong for 1518, but maybe OK for 1560s-1570s. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0286058/
I found it on Youtube. Not really interesting, but the Story is OK with good actors.
I just saw her in an ep of Cadfael :)
