Costume designer Joanna Johnston has been the creative force behind an absurdly high number of my favorite films from my childhood, but she’s also continued a noteworthy career into the 21st century! So today, let’s take a look at her historical films!

Roger Rabbit is one of those movies that really piqued my attention with its costumes, even as a kid, so excellent job there. I haven’t seen most of the war movies or fantastical movies here, but I really liked Lincoln too. I need to rewatch it.
And I didn’t like The BFG at all, but I loved Penelope Wilton as the Queen, she looked great.
I have quite a soft spot for Roger Rabbit. I don’t remember the human costumes very well, but, I’ll pay closer attention next time I watch.
I also didn’t realize Sally Field was in multiple Frock Flicks. Maybe one day she’ll appear on WCW. (Not a request, just an idle thought.)
Yes to Sally Fields WCW, pretty please!!@
I think you should add Robert Zemeckis’ HERE to this post. It’s an odd experiment of a movie, all shot from the same angle in the same location across centuries of history. That time-spanning narrative means that Johnston’s costumes, though seldom seen in detail, range from 18th-century garb to contemporary fits. I think my favorite costumes belong to the very early 20th century family, whose tragic story involves a funeral at home with great work on the extras clothes, and the 1940s bohemian couple of a pin-up girl and an inventor.
