I came to a recent realization that I really rather enjoy Michelle Williams as an actress. She has a lot more range than I think she was given credit for, especially in her early career. Now that she’s matured into more interesting roles, I found myself wanting to take a deeper look at her repertoire, including her historical roles.

What’s your favorite role played by Michelle Williams? Tell us in the comments!
I like Shutter Island as a twisty mystery film but outside of some nice men’s 1950s suiting, there’s not much in the way of interesting costuming as most of the characters are patients of the mental institution (sack dresses and cardigans for the women, vaguely scrub-like tops and pants for the men) or staff in uniforms (scrubs for male orderlies, a few uniforms for security guards, typical white 1950s nurses dresses for the female nurses). Michelle Williams – though in a very small role – is definitely the bright spot in terms of costuming for the film.
My favorite Michelle Williams film though is the non-period piece Take This Waltz; directed by Sarah Polley and co-starring Seth Rogen and Luke Kirby.
I really liked her in the Marilyn film. She is talented. She looks like a totally different person in “All the Money…”!! I am intrigued. And I love Gwen Verdon so I need to see that movie. Michelle is quite the chameleon!
Because of her first TV series, she had enough money in the bank so she could take interesting roles. She definitely is a talented actor with tins of range.
There’s Gwen’s flashbacks to the 1940s/Early 1950s in Fosse/Verdon!
