  1. Here’s something to frighten you: there’s going to be yet ANOTHER adaptation of Wuthering Heights starring… Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. I’ll stick with the semaphore version. :)

    1. Just what the whole cinematic world needs, yet another “artist’s vision” of Emily Bronte. (And Austen, of course.) Reminds me of “All Creatures” and Poirot/Marple remakes: unnecessary, but proven moneymakers. Is the Binoche-Fiennes “Wuthering” the one that comes closest to some sort of production accuracy, as in 18th-century costuming?

  2. Are you guys saving the particualr horrors of A Gilded Newport Mystery: Murder at The Breakers for Snark Week? PS: I could guest review/rant about the terrible 2013 Dracula series starring our favorite JRM(UGH!) Right in time for Halloween!

  3. I’m curious about the Nosferatu remake. Looks like 1830s goes Goth from the trailers! (Squees in Goth) Also, Hold Your Breath is on Hulu! Looks like depressing Dust Bowl outfits?

  4. I was heartbroken to hear about the death of the great Maggie Smith- I thought she and Judi Dench were just going to live forever😔

  5. Finally got to see “Firebrand”! (On a Virgin Atlantic flight, alas.) Eh–Jude Law very good, with acting chops on full display, although he doesn’t look nearly disgusting enough to be Henry in his 50s. Vikander OK, a little young for the role. The plot, of course, is ridiculous, but the costuming seemed great, at least on that little plane screen, with full-on hot-French-hood action.

  6. Off-topic (I can’t resist): On my recent trip to England, I went to a Michaelmas fair in Winchester, where a big local group of mostly oldish people performed traditional music–and the men were wearing cream-colored farm-laborer smocks (over their jeans) and ALL the women had caps, some with lappets! I don’t how accurate the designs were, but the overall look was Tess of the d’Urbervilles: lots of well-laundered cotton and soft colors. Thank you, Frockers, for encouraging me to notice these details.
