I noticed Dept. Q actress Chloe Pirrie will play Sense and Sensibility (2026), which is a feature film and whose main other actor I recognize is Outlander‘s CaitrÃona Balfe as Mrs. Dashwood. Let’s see where else we know Pirrie from in terms of frock flicks!
I can’t find pictures for:
- Girl Screenwriter in Youth (2015)
- Lara in The Living and the Dead (2016): I actually skimmed this, and I think she plays a ghost and so is mostly a voice!
Otherwise, here’s Pirrie in historical costume movies and TV series!
Wendy Straw in The Game (2014-15)
A British Cold War spy series set in 1972. Okay, I’m stretching here!

Sheila Birling in An Inspector Calls (2015)
In 1912, in the middle of a rich family’s dinner, a mysterious police inspector shows up and starts interrogating the family about a girl’s suicide. Pirrie plays the just-engaged daughter.

Julie Karagina in War & Peace (2016)
The truly terrible BBC adaptation of the Tolstoy novel set in Russia during the Napoleonic Wars. Karagina is a wealthy heiress who various characters want to marry.

Emily Brontë in To Walk Invisible: The Brontë Sisters (2016)
Pirrie plays the mid-19th century author who wrote Wuthering Heights in this BBC biopic about the three Brontë sisters.

Eileen Parker in The Crown (2016-23)
Pirrie plays the wife of Prince Philip’s best friend/personal secretary, whose scandalous divorce rocked Philip and Queen Elizabeth II’s marriage.

Andromache in Troy: Fall of a City (2018)
Andromache is the wife of Hector, prince and hero of ancient Troy, in this TV series set during the mythic war.

Dahlia in Carnival Row (2019-23)
A Victorian/fantasy series about mythological beings who must survive as refugees among humans. Dahlia is “the ruthless leader of the extremist faerie organization called the Black Raven” per Wikipedia.

Isabella Knightley in Emma (2020)
Pirrie plays the older sister of the titular Emma in this recent feature film adaptation of the Jane Austen book.

Which frock flicks do you know Chloe Pirrie from, and which is your favorite?
