This is Not a Murder Mystery (2025) has been out for a while in the UK and various other countries, but it hasn’t yet become available to watch in the US. I’ve been keeping tabs on this particular show ever since I saw the preview several months ago, hoping that we will get a US release date in the relatively near future, but alas, it appears that there is still no date set, which is highly irritating because I really want to watch it!
The premise centers around a gathering of famous artists who have assembled in a suitably creepy Gothic mansion under the invitation of a suitably eccentric host, wherein a suitable number of guests get murdered. You know this shit is right up my alley — murder mystery? Surrealists? Fabulous costumes? I WANNA SEE IT!

Anyway, here’s some of the details I’ve managed to find about the series. Apparently, the first murder to go off (and what you can see from the trailer) is Sheila Legge, played by Belgian actress Lauren Versnick, so right off the bat we can deduce that the show is deviating from the historical record. Legge, a performance artist and one of Salvador DalÃ’s muses, died in 1949 of pneumonia, not in the 1930s of being murdered. But I’m still interested in where this show is going, so I’m not going to let that stop me.

The other artists invited to the manor house include all the prominent Surrealists: DalÃ, Gala DalÃ, Man Ray, Max Ernst, Lee Miller, René Magritte, and E.L.T. Mesens. Basically all of my favorite Surrealists in one show!

The costumes were designed by Charlotte Willems, who designed the costumes in Bookish (2025-), which was another recent delightful historical murder mystery series that I really enjoyed.
All in all, this looks like a fun one, and I would really, really love to watch it at some point.
Have you already watched This is Not a Murder Mystery (2025)? DON’T SPOIL IT FOR ME! But do tell us all about how the costumes are in the comments!

I have DEFINITELY seen that striped blouse in a movie or TV show before, and now I’m going to drive myself crazy trying to think of which one.
It looks like one of Margot’s costumes from the Durrells? Maybe not though.
