Well, the limited series Mary & George (2024) is over, and since I covered eps one through four a few weeks ago, now’s time to finish with episodes five through seven. I didn’t intend to go deep on this one too, but … I love this historical period, and costume designer Annie Symons and her team continued to knock it out of the park!

I remain morally certain that someone on the casting team for this gig took one look at Mr Tony Curran, looked back to Ms Julianne Moore and thought “Hey, hey, with that sort of resemblance we could throw a little extra Oedipus into the family drama!”.
It’s also easy to see that this is the Historic take on the Duke of Buckingham – with such a Katherine Villiers at home, who could possibly believe he’d be chasing the Queen Consort of France and making work for the Three Musketeers? (Amusingly I had seen the actress as Queen of the Elves in THE WITCHER: BLOOD ORIGIN not too long before).
Finally, I really enjoyed the take on young Charles the First in this show – one would be interested in seeing what the actor did with the role in a show that followed His Late Majesty as he became a disaster for Scotland, England and Ireland…
I thought that series was a bit too long. The costumes, the settings and acting were really good and I loved Julianne s take on the role. But I was really put off by Galitzine’s lascivious boysband modern appearance (especially his cheap hair)
I haven’t seen it, but just seeing the photos of Galitzine irritates me. Sorry, but he looks so wrong. Would definitely put me off too! “My” Buckingham remains Simon Ward. I mean, who would even look at Galitzine when you could have Ward – who not only looked like the portraits but also was soooo pretty hearteyes.
