  1. I really liked The Quiet American! Any chance of getting a MCM for Michael Caine? He’s been in a boatload of Frock Flicks. :)

    1. Oh right! It’s been 20 years since I last saw the film so I was going off my memory… I recalled the mom being alive but only that the dad’s heart attack is what prompted Brendan Fraser’s character to leave the underground bunker in the first place.

  2. My favorite Brendan Fraser role is – Brendan Fraser. Everything about him seems like one of the good men, every movie he is in is better because he is in it.

    1. 100% agreed! I wasn’t all that interested in watching Doom Patrol until I found out that Fraser is the voice of Robotman, and then I was all in. Turns out it’s a fantastic show! LOL

  3. While it’s not a Frock Flick, I love him in George of the Jungle — especially in the scene where a shirtless George is romping with a paddock full of horses. His long hair is flowing and his skin is glowing and all the women are drooling over him. And a baffled guy says to another, “What is it about girls and horses anyway?”

    1. Yes. That scene, plus “Ursula, I found your scrunchie!” a line that makes all ages laugh, although we’re never quite sure why. (I also recommend B.F. in “Rental Family. ” Thanks to his performance and a good script, it manages to be touching but not sugary.)

    1. Seriously! We have a joke at FF that “3 movies makes a post”, though we do try to make sure we feature actors with more frock flicks than just that… But I figured he had at least 3 since I could count The Mummy, School Ties, and Gods and Monsters right off the bat. Turns out he’s been in quite a few more!

I debated on throwing Dudley Do-Right in there, too, since it’s sorta kinda historical-ish, but decided against it. Dudley and Snidley Whiplash are both “historical” but really no one else is in the film.

    1. Haha! I was convinced the lyric in the commercial was “Pussy cow, pussy cow, pussy cow” as a kid. I think I was in my twenties when I finally realized it was “Go see Cal, go see Cal, go see Cal!”

  4. Historical role? The Mummy. Any other role? Mrs. Winterbourne. It’s not the greatest movie, but I adore the hell out of the tango scene. Brendan just makes a movie somewhat better.

  5. Ok, so I was reading this post on my ipad on the subway and I found myself making noises unsuitable in public. I know this because other commuters are looking at me strangely and intently.

BUT COME ON. IT’S BRENDAN FRASER.

    1. THANK YOU! BRENDAN FRASER IS A GODDAMN DELIGHT!

Also, I lied. My favorite movie of his isn’t Encino Man, it’s Airheads, which almost no one ever remembers but I quote constantly (I know I must have used the term “pony nub” somewhere on this blog at some point). I was a giant metalhead in my teens and him? In that movie? With the tight jeans and the long, wild hair? YES PLEASE.

  6. Mr Fraser is a treasure and I remember THE MUMMY with fondness, but I will be terribly, terribly sad if Mr Daniel Craig fails to show up as an Evil Nerd in the forthcoming sequel.

Also, there’s to be ANOTHER sequel?!?

    1. Hahaha, I know, there were plenty of sequels! But other than the first sequel with most of the OG cast, the subsequent films were all pretty terrible. I’m hoping that this new one captures some of the magic of the first movie!

  7. Incidentally, reading the review of THE MUMMY on this blog I noticed that the reviewer was uncertain as to whether Rick O’Connell remained affiliated with the French Foreign Legion at the time of his second visit to Hamunaptra – the answer to that is “Very definitely NO”, given that he specifically mentions he and his colleagues deserted their garrison to march halfway across North Africa on a treasure hunt.

If the Egyptian authorities had not sentence hin to hang, he’d have probably been shot by la Legion.

    1. Thanks for answering that question for me! I wrote that post 5 years ago and wasn’t digging too deeply into the Rick’s backstory due to time constraints, lol. It’s always good to have some closure!

  8. I saw Pressure in the cinema recently. I thought it was a decent, workmanlike, stagey (it’s adapted from a play) “stiff upper lip” WW2 movie, and Brendan Fraser and Andrew Scott were good, but I was disappointed to find that it’s yet another “true story” movie which plays fast and loose with the actual historical events.

Feel the love
