One of the most annoying aspects of this not-actually-a-job-I-just-do-this-for-the-glory-thing that I do here is yet again finding a promising miniseries only to find out that there is approximately ONE WHOLE EPISODE of decent costumes, only to find out that the next 4 to roughly 800 episodes contain nothing interesting other than what was seen in the first ep. This is my lot in life. I live in eternal optimism that a multi-episode miniseries is going to deliver interesting costume changes ever episode and time and time again I am thwarted.
That’s what I optimistically believed when I covered the first episode of A Dangerous Friendship (2024-). It looked solid … maybe not super authentic, but there seemed to be an actual costuming budget and there I went, getting my hopes up that I would have a couple more weeks worth of fodder for this blog.

So, there’s not much else to talk about after my first post about this show. Most of the costumes I covered in my previous post are basically all there is in the next three episodes.

A Dangerous Friendship (2024-) is worth watching, but maybe not for the costumes. Have you seen it? Tell us about it in the comments.Â

Gotta love cleavage windows, though they’re accurate to the early 17th century!
I see the BBC series “The Pallisers” has received a couple of mentions in your blog over the years, but I would be interested in your take on the incredible costumes, particularly for Susan Hampshire, over the years the series ran. Lady Glencora gets one mention as “pretty sure she’s an ingenue”. But the series covers over 20 years of her life, in one amazing outfit after another. Susan Hampshire mentions in an interview that during the filming she made a conscious effort to present all sides of her outfits to the camera, to give them all the attention she felt they deserved. I feel that occasionally (even often), the costumes overwhelmed the drama of the scene.
