As soon as Freya Mavor turned up at Jeanne de la Motte in season two of Marie Antoinette (2022- ), the “where have I seen her before??!!” started bugging me. This frequently inspires my MCMs and WCWs! If you’re wondering the same thing, join me:
Princess Elizabeth in The White Queen (2013)
An adaptation of a Philippa Fucking Gregory novel about Elizabeth Woodville, wife/queen of King Edward IV. Mavor plays Elizabeth of York, future wife of King Henry VII.

Beth Fanshawe in New Worlds (2014)
A miniseries sequel to The Devil’s Whore, telling intertwined stories set in 17th-century England and the American colonies, including the daughter of a utopian aristocrat and the son of a Civil War general as well as characters in Massachusetts.

Jeanne in Cezanne et Moi (2016)
“The parallel paths of the lives, careers and passionate friendship of post-impressionist painter Paul Cezanne and novelist Emile Zola,” per IMDB.

Young Veronica in The Sense of an Ending (2017)
A mystery drama set in the 1960s.

Margaret Friar in The Keeper (2018)
Just post-World War II, an English woman and German prisoner of war/football player fall in love.

Annette in The Emperor of Paris (2018)
A story about an ex-con turned police officer in Napoleonic Paris. This is actually on my shortlist!

Thora Grey in The ABC Murders (2018)
An adaptation of an Agatha Christie murder mystery.

Julia in My Policeman (2022)
A 1950s-set romance inspired by the relationship between the writer E. M. Forster and Bob Buckingham.

Jeanne in Marie Antoinette (2022- )
Mavor plays Jeanne de Valois-Saint-Rémy, who masterminded a scheme to defraud a French nobleman that ended up causing a ton of blowback for Queen Marie-Antoinette.

Which is your favorite of Freya Mavor’s frock flick performances?
I’ve loved Freya since her debut in the third series of Skins. It’s just a pity she doesn’t get to use her Scottish accent more often.
Apropos of nothing ‘Freya’ is one of my very favourite names (Although I’m never sure if pronouncing it “Fray-YA!” is entirely appropriate).
More pertinent to the discussion at hand, Mme Mavor’s character is undoubtedly one of the most entertaining elements in MARIE ANTOINETTE season 2 – her criminal antics and diverse conspiracies undoubtedly keep things interesting.
Also, as an allumina of THE WHITE QUEEN any character she plays has a head-start in my affections (I still greet appearances by Ms Rebecca Ferguson with “The White Queen!” and high excitement lo these many years, not to mention more than one Blockbuster, later).
Hey, hey, hey. Timeout. You may not consider the 1960s historical until the last of the Boomers dies. (From that perspective the 1950s could be considered verboten too). I’ll let you have the 1940s, but some 90 year olds may disagree. Just be aware the accuracy of your clothing analysis will be criticized by those who have lived the times. 😃
