You asked for it, so here’s an occasional open thread to bitch about anything tangentially related to history, costume, movies, or TV shows! Or whatever else is on your mind right now. Note that URLs are automatically held for moderation, but most anything else goes as long as you’re not bitchier than we are!
It’s fall, y’all! Time for pumpkin spice, making sure you’re registered to vote, and Oscar-bait frock flicks!
What are you looking forward to this autumnal season?
Firebrand is finally widely released in UK cinemas. Alas not in the US. Apparently we can’t have nice things.
Also, WTFrock is going on with Snow White’s official costume in the remake? It had Sandy Powell as the designer, responsible for the amazing mashups in the Cinderella remake! How the mighty have fallen!
Dying to watch the new Count of Monte Cristo Movie!
It looks full of WTFrock costumes! I get that the 1820s isn’t the most interesting decade, fashion wise, but still!
Edmond Dantes as Monte Cristo has got a “matrix” coat. And of course, unmarried girl = hair down. Otherwise, the movie is good IMO.
Beautiful earrings for the ladies.
Started watching Belgravia despite my usual indifference to 1840s costumes and was immediately put off by a narrator voice opening with “they say the past is foreign country.” There’s no reason to have a fictional Victorian quote a 1950s novel! Surely there are older books that have interesting things to say about remembering the past!
Tried watching Peaky Blinders, and while the costumes are pretty good, the hair drove me insane! Not a single female speaking character had hair that looked like 1919.
RIP Maggie Smith.
