You asked for it, so here’s an occasional open thread to bitch about anything tangentially related to history, costume, movies, or TV shows! Or whatever else is on your mind right now. Note that URLs are automatically held for moderation, but most anything else goes as long as you’re not bitchier than we are!
Fall is in the air in most parts of the northern hemisphere, Halloween has passed, and wintery holidays are on the horizon as the year ticks down. Luckily, we have some new and possibly snarkworthy frock flicks to review!
What are you snuggling up with this month?
Am almost finished with All the Light We Cannot See on Netflix. It’s wonderful. I’m not binging it so that it’s not over too fast.
Season 2 of The Gilded Age!
I’m planning to review that one in chunks, not the recaps of S1, but more of highlights.
The easter gowns in episode one are stunning! Such fun hats.
I’ve been rewatching David Suchet’s Poirot from the first season! It’s a bit of an 80’s spin of the 30’s, but it’s so fun
I adore that series! I love the theme song.
Me too! He’s such fun!
I’m enjoying Fellow Travelers! Crazy ’bout a sharp dressed Man!
I need to watch that one!
Just signed up for Hulu, so I can watch A Death In Venice (but really want to watch the new Awkwafina movie as well). :)
Ooh I forgot that was on Hulu and will have to check it out.
I’ve been watching S2 of Gilded Age also. Vivid eye candy throughout, to the point of frustration for me! Every outfit clean and pressed as if it’s never been worn, not a speck of dirt or hint of wrinkle which gives it a very sanitized look. Total MGM musical color palette and every bow and ruffle perfectly placed. Don’t get me wrong, I love pretty costumes and with all the flourishes, but these costumes at times overwhelm the story! But I guess that’s okay since the story is often pretty silly anyway!
That might be the best review of the series I’ve heard! I agree ;)
