WCW: Marianne Faithfull

Marianne Faithfull is perhaps best known as a singer from the 1960s, but she’s also appeared in a number of films, including some historical flicks! Let’s take a look at them!

Hamlet (1969)

She appeared as Ophelia in this screen adaptation for the BBC.

W. Somerset Maugham – The Door of Opportunity (1970)

Marianne Faithfull appears in one episode in this series adapting W. Somerset Maugham’s writing.

Lucifer Rising (1972)

An experimental short from Kenneth Anger, I’m not sure if this is actually a historical flick or just some weird acid trip, but I’m not getting any closer to find out.

Ghost Story (1974)

A mystery film set in the 1930s, but with a time traveling element. Marianne Faithful plays Sophy, a young woman who once lived in the house about 100 years before the film takes place.

Marie Antoinette (2006)

This was the film that introduced me to Marianne Faithfull as an actress (of course I was already well aware of her as a singer). She plays Empress Maria Teresa, Marie Antoinette’s domineering mother.

Belle du Seigneur (2012)

Set in the 1930s, but it’s kind of hard to tell just from the stills. Lots of barely-historical takes on 30s fashions.
