The Academy Awards are on March 15, 2026, and I noticed a certain title nominated in the Best Live Action Short Film category. It’s Jane Austen’s Period Drama (2024), and you can watch the 13-minute flick on YouTube:
Set in England, 1813, this clever little piece mixes an Austen-esque marriage proposal with frank (and hilarious) talk about menstruation. Pay attention to all the characters’ names for extra emphasis on the subject matter and check the film’s website and socials for more.
I don’t want to say much more because you just need to watch and enjoy it! While it did start from writer/director/actor Julia Aks making a “stupid pun” for a comedy sketch, this short film captures something essential and true. I’ll only mention that the costumes and production design are lovely and really give the feel of a standard-issue Jane Austen costume drama. Also, Emma Thompson signed on as executive producer, or rather Executive Menstrual Advisor, and she calls this “a bloody little gem.”

It’s that time of the month to watch this frock flick!

The name choices are golden.
Truly, FANNY HILL‘s legacy lives on immortal.
Thanks for spotlighting this!
This made me laugh in the midst of a hard week, which is priceless these days. We all deserve a Mr. Dickley!
