  1. ‘Theodore’ or ‘TR’, Drunk History Lady: I’m given to understand that the old Bull Moose didn’t appreciate his other nickname, bear or no bear.

Also, congratulations to the Presidents of the United States for having their very own public holiday – I’m never sure if British PMs must envy them the accolade or thank their lucky stars that they get to leave quite a bit of public glad-handing to the ‘HM’ in ‘HM Government.’

Finally, congratulations to the Right Honourable Larry, Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office, as he celebrates his fifteenth anniversary as Great Britain’s most beloved civil servant and Great Britain’s ONLY beloved civil servant.

  2. President’s Day this year is so close to Valentine’s Day, when in 1884, Theodore Roosevelt lost his wife, who had given birth two days ago to their daughter Alice, and his mother. His diary entry for that day was a large “X” with the words: “The Light Has Gone Out of My Life.”

Feel the love
