This might be heretical to say, but eff it. I liked Frankie Drake Mysteries (2017-21) better than Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries.
As the resident cozy historical murder mystery lover here at Frock Flicks, I can’t believe I slept so long on Frankie Drake. It’s pretty much the whole package when it comes to this genre, with an added dose of glam.

So, if you’re looking for something easy on the eyes, fun, full of fabulous clothing, and a side dish of solving crime, you can binge Frankie Drake Mysteries on PBS Passport right now!

Just wanted to note, for those Frock Flicks fans who live in Canada, you can stream all the seasons for free on CBC Gem.
I found the acting stiff and forced; too bad, as it distracted from the production design (and the clothes).
I liked the first two series but I found after awhile that the costumes were all over the place. Towards the end, even though it was still the 1920s, most of the costumes came off as more 1930s.
Frankie Drake used to show up on Ovation in the U.S. but haven’t seen it there for a while. All I can say is I drool over some of Frankie’s outfits to the point that I did screen shots just to see if the clothes were something I could make. In one episode Frankies wore a fantastic black and white outfit that I lust after. As for the stories, I found their female forward approach and their pro female attitude to be refreshing after much of the tripe that appears on commercial TV. I’d happily watch the whole series again…in a heartbeat.
I’m surprised people liked Frankie’s wardrobe! So much of it was a collared shirt and pants that looked like something you’d go out and buy today to wear to work. And those block-heeled, ankle-strap shoes that every high-school grad has worn for the past few years kept appearing here, which were just wrong! Plus Frankie’s hair was just awful–long and unstyled.
That is why I like some of her outfits. I would wear a number of them today and be quite happy. To each their own.
I caught a few episodes at random on PBS. I liked the show well enough—the chemistry, the coziness, and the costumes, but not enough to make it appointment television. Glad to know it’s on Passport now. I might give it another chance!
