  1. Love her! I will also watch her in anything. She was a great Jane Eyre, had a great fey quality as described in the book.

  2. She captivated me in Luther (yes, not a period series) with her brilliantly ambiguous portrayal of an acquitted murderer of her parents.

    1. SAME!

Her portrayal of Alice is brilliant. Some of the best acting of the entire series. Once I saw her Ruth, I started watching her other stuff. She’s absolutely sublime.

  3. It’s not a frock flick, but my favorite Ruth Wilson is psychopath Ruth Wilson; she was brilliant in Sherlock.

The Little Stranger is a brilliant book, but just an okay, eh, not really, kind of movie. The book is so subtle, you can’t do without the inner monologue, and even so, the main character’s psyche is so strange you can’t even explain it to someone else. I read it, then we read it in my book group and had one of the best discussions ever. It’s a true callback to the best of Shirley Jackson, which pretty much means it’s unfilmable.

    1. I was going to write the same thing! The Little Stranger is one of my all time favorite books, but the movie was a disappointment, despite the excellent cast. Like you said, it doesn’t work without the inner monologue and that monologue would never work in a film.

  4. I will forgive THE LONE RANGER much for having the most slam-bam THANK YOU HERR ZIMMER orchestration of the already Banging classic men call ‘The William Tell Overture’ even if it takes a lengthy, weird while to get there.

Also, Ms Ruth Wilson: also Mr Wilkinson; heck, I even rather like the gleefully weird characterisation of the Great Horse Silver in this film (and there are other amusements).

Not enough of a boffin in matters sartorial to make any remark on the costumes other – when they’re good, they’re good, when they’re not good … well there’s always next time.

    Oh wait …
